Dental X-rays let the dentist see what a visual exam cannot. They reveal decay hiding between teeth or beneath existing fillings. X-rays also show the roots and the bone that supports each tooth. Signs of infection at the root tip can appear before any pain does. Catching these problems early makes them easier to treat. Modern dental X-rays use a very low amount of radiation.
