Spinal stenosis simply means the spinal canal has narrowed, leaving less room for the nerves inside. That canal is the bony tunnel that carries your spinal nerves down through the spine. With age, several things can crowd it: thickened ligaments, bulging discs, and enlarged, arthritic joints. As the space tightens, the nerves get squeezed, and that often shows up when you stand or walk. Here's the classic clue. Standing and walking arch the back and narrow the canal further, bringing on aching, heavy, or tingling legs. Leaning forward, onto a shopping cart or a counter, opens the canal back up, and the relief is often quick. That posture pattern is what sets it apart from poor circulation, which doesn't ease when you bend forward. Stenosis is defined by these symptoms, not by a picture alone. Plenty of people's scans look narrow without causing trouble. Go to the emergency room now if back pain comes with loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin or saddle area, or new weakness in both legs. This can be cauda equina syndrome, and waiting can cause permanent damage. This video is for general education only. It is not medical advice. Ask your doctor what's right for you.
