Colds and the flu share many symptoms, but they are not quite the same. A cold usually comes on slowly and stays fairly mild. The flu hits harder and faster, often with fever, body aches, and deep fatigue. Most colds and mild flu get better at home with rest and fluids. Urgent care can help when symptoms are severe, last a long time, or come with a high fever. Trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion, or bluish lips all mean the emergency room, or 911. For most people, a few days of rest brings a cold or the flu to an end.

This video is educational only and is not medical advice. Every patient is different — talk to your provider about your specific situation.
